Social security can be saved. But adjustments must be made. Medicare, in its current form, is as good as dead. It was never a secret that Medicare would become difficult to fund over the long term, which is why I thought Republicans were crazy when they proposed the 2001 tax cuts.

No painless options here. We can't balance the budget without drastic reductions in Medicare/social security benefits and defense spending.. These plus interest on our debt comprise about 70% of the budget today, and it's growing.
